To ensure quality education reaches even the homeschooling population in Singapore, the Homeschooling Association has initiated a guideline for the tutoring system in Singapore to further benefit as well as protect the interests of our growing community. Each tutor recommended and listed in the following lists of Class A, B and C have adhered to the minimum academic and expertise criteria set by the Association.

The criterior are as follows:

  • A minimum level of academic knowledge of the subject the tutor offers to teach
  • Supported documents of academic achievements
  • An acknowledged basic degree in their respective subjects
  • Experience of at least two years in teaching.
  • The passion to teach and impart their knowledge

Class A
Who: Tutors who have attained highly acknowledged degrees and/or superior qualification in their respective fields of expertise.

Recommended for: Children who require intensive preparatory teaching. Upper secondary, Junior College or tertiary students might want to consider Class A tutors. However, do note that the fees for such coaching might be proportionally higher as well. If you feel that the amount and intensity of teaching is unnecessary or it exceeds your financial capacity, Class B and Class C tutors would be better options for consideration.

Class B
Who: Tutors who have notable qualifications in the subjects they have offered to teach and at least 3 years of experience in teaching whether in public or private institutions.

Recommended For: This category of tutors is recommended if you should require a considerable amount of coaching for your children but not up to the intensity of preparing for examinations. Parents with Secondary, Junior College or tertiary students might be interested in hiring such tutors if they feel their children do not require a vigorous amount of coaching. This Class of tutors is also a good consideration for parents with moderate financial capacities.

Class C
Who: Tutors who have at least went through a basic teaching preparatory course and meet the minimum 2 years requirement of teaching experience. These tutors are also substantiated with decent GCE “A” level results (this includes an A in the subject that they have offered to tutor) or any acknowledged form of examination in equivalent (i.e. International Baccalaureate minimum points of 30).

Recommended for: This category of tutors is recommended if you are already tutoring your child in a particular subject but require more help in the coaching of more difficult segments of the subject which you may not be as familiar with. Furthermore, parents might also be interested in hiring Class C tutors for the tutoring of primary or lower secondary students as the teaching style would be much less vigorous than that of Classes A or B. Class C provides a comfortable tutoring expenses range for parents of most financial capabilities.
